WEARABLE ART
My aim for this project is to design a garment from a favourite artwork and understand the design process. This final project will exclusively be made out of paper resources only.
The artist I have chosen to use as inspiration is Takato Yamamoto, he is known for his 'Heisei Estheticism.' His style has a type of vicious beauty combining brutality with serenity, blood and gore contrasted with delicate lines and beautiful faces. The style of art I tend to gravitate to is illustration with fine detail and I like drawing people incorporated with foliage in a gothic and dark manner.
V&A BALENCIAGA
Exhibition examines the work and legacy of the influential Spanish designer Cristobal Balenciaga. He changed the shape of women fashion creating sculptural forms and framing the natural figure instead of restricting it.
He is renowned for his iconic designs and mastering of pattern cutting, this video shows his complex construction of the Tulip Dress. Layers of fabric to imitate the petals of a tulip with a simplistic front but large bow at the back similar to that of a kimono bow.
I like the use of inspiration from flowers and nature since Takato Yamamoto incorporates essences of natural elements.
Another design called the Minimalistic ensemble, an evening cape and dress ensemble that shows simplicity and abstraction
This piece reminds me off an illustration by Takato Yamamoto since it encapsulates the wearer like in this girl is trapped in the red cape.
In Japanese art and culture it is common to incporate ideas of dolls or doll like features amongst young girls for a perception of innocence and beauty. In the exhbit there was the 'Baby Doll Cocktail Dress' in black reminiscent of that in the illustration above.

I was looking for inspiration and I came across this GIF which I found fascinating and inspirational. I love the flowing sense of movement which is relaxing and beautiful to watch even though beneath the beauty there is a dark message and the idea is quite graphic.

I like the headpiece since it reminds me of the artists work where Yamamoto drew rose thorn crowns, noble yet dangerous.
I would like to incorporate these simplistic yet well fitted designs in my own piece whilst incorporating elements of darkness with elegance as does Takato Yamamoto
