3DCP: MEMORIES SHORT FILM
ASMR:Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response
ASMR, you either love it or hate it. At first I was not a fan since loud mouth noises and whispering in my ear through headphones made me cringe more than relax me. However after more and more listening, it begins to grow on the listener and starts to have hypnotic effects. For me, heightened noises of nostalgic or calming sounds increase sensory stimulation and makes you feel more calm.
After drawing our memories we had to destroy them, an accurate representation in that memories are fleeting and can be forgotten over time like ashes blowing in the wind.
Tearing up the memories and burning them creates a powerful movement, watching your memories fly away and dissipate into nothing. It's sad but also feels nostalgic and safe like watching a film reel of your past experiences.
I tore up my memories and burnt them with oil to create a more fierce fire. Oil created a more intensive flame and smoke effect which would be captured well by video. In the editing of the video I wanted to focus on the sounds of the memories burning away so that the concentration was more focused on what was happening.
I muted the noise on the original video and added in fire crackling since this reminds me of winter nights back home sitting toasty next to the fireplace with my cat and summer campfire nights roasting marshmallows over the fire and telling horror stories that weren't really that scary but made me and my friends terrified anyway. Other sounds added were gust of wind, dripping of the oil, pouring of the oil into the pan and clicking of the lighter to ignite the flame.
A black and white filter was used to create a more dramatic effect although it would be even more powerful if the memories were burnt in a neutral surroundings and the video was filmed in colour so that the red and orange of the flame and grey of the smoke would stand out.
