DEVELOPMENT OF WEARABLE ART
To understand the ideas of wearable art, experimentation was carried out with paper to create abstract garments incorporating both 3D and 2D elements. Neat and clean cut edges was not the focus point of this exercise since ripping and wrinkly paper would create a more dramatic effect.
It was a technique I was not used to doing since studying Textiles at A-level had always taught me to create fitted and couture paper proto-types. It has definitely taught me that expression and spontaneous acts of throwing parts together without worry of accuracy can generate interesting and unique ideas from a different perspective.
The final design for this exercise included both 3D and 2D aspects, it was inspired by feathers of a bird due t the layering of ripped strips formed together underneath the chest lest to hand loosely. Takato Yamamoto is my inspiration for this project and as an artist he encapsulates themes of nature and death. The bird feathers could represent that of a crow which are usually associated with grave yards and picking away at remains. If this was to be made out of fabric, black feathers could be used to replicate this or even ripped raw edge black silk fabric.
